When I work on my art, it is always my aim to improve and advance my skills and understanding. Whilst I feel I'm going in the right direction, climbing the mountain of progress can be strenuous and exhausting.
Sometimes, in order to go up, you need to take a step sideways to find a better path going upwards.
My "Birds" project is that sidestep. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and admire the view. This project is a new avenue of creativity for me, as the art produced here is done so with linocut printing.
I wish to keep my subject matter as simple as possible. British species of birds are a common depiction for many traditional artists and illustrators, and for good reason. Birds are commonplace, and are a permanent fixture of the world around us. As we have become accustomed to our day to day living, we barely notice these creatures. You're probably hearing them singing and chattering outside as you read this.
One of the basic principles of art is observation. The more I study these familiar creatures, the more I begin to realise that "Birds" are not common after all. They are individual, unique and baring their own stories.
